About
Are you passionate about teaching Aboriginal perspectives but don’t know where to start? Do you already have ideas but would like to explore them further? Are you just genuinely interested in finding out more about Aboriginal cultures, knowledges and understandings? Or do you just want to feel more comfortable and confident in teaching Aboriginal perspectives in your classroom? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then welcome! Here at Wadjela Learning we hope to inspire and inform you in best practices in teaching Aboriginal histories, cultures and perspectives in the classroom. We are based on Noongar boodja (Noongar Country) in the South West of Western Australia and draw on Noongar knowledges as well as knowledges from Aboriginal Nations around Australia. We are a team of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal educators with a wealth of experience to share.
Meet the Team
Education Director
Dr Sarah Booth
Dr Sarah Booth has taught in Australian schools for 10 years and taught pre-service teachers across multiple universities in Australia. She has contributed to the development of Indigenous Education units and has a passion for embedding Indigenous perspectives across the schooling sector. Her Masters by Research and PhD both focused on how Indigenous perspectives are taught in schools and the factors which affect this. As a non-Indigenous Australian, she continues to learn about Indigenous cultures, histories, and knowledges and how best to support pre-service teachers in developing their knowledge and expertise in this area.
Education Consultant
Terry Kessaris
Terry Ngarritjan Kessaris is an experienced educator. She is originally from the Top End of the Northern Territory and her people and country are Alawa and Marra. Terry has taught extensively in higher education, her disciplinary background is education, and she has a strong interest in Aboriginal communication, especially Aboriginal English and Kriol. She has a wealth of knowledge to share throughout the website and course materials.

Dr Mary-anne Macdonald
I am passionate about improving education experiences of school students and in particular, educating the wider population to better understand and work in intercultural environments. My research interests include teacher education, cultural studies, race education and Indigenous knowledges in education.
